In case of campus closure, UNT staff may be called upon to work from home. The following is a comprehensive guide that covers the different methods of securely accessing UNT computing resources from off-campus.

Internet connectivity
In order to adequately work remotely, it is highly recommended that you have some type of high-speed internet at home.

Up to date operating system
The operating system on your computer should have the latest security patches installed on it. If you plan on working from home make sure you check for updates at least once a week.

After ensuring your computer is up to date, it is pertinent to have an anti-virus solution installed (that is also kept up to date) on your computer. Faculty and staff can obtain copies of Mcafee Anti-virus by clicking here.

Approval is needed
Before you begin working remotely, approval from your supervisor will be needed.

Things to Remember

Use Strong Passwords
If you're working from a personally owned desktop or laptop, UNT has no way of enforcing its password policy. Therefore, if you decide to use a personal computer to connect to UNT resources remotely, it is still required to use strong passwords.

Technical Support is limited
Remember, your personal computer is your own. UNT cannot support your computer even if it involves working remotely. The only time can contact UNT for support is if you need to reset your UNT password.

Keep Sensitive Data at Work
If you need to work with sensitive data, make sure to keep it stored on UNT resources. Sensitive data cannot be stored on personal devices, and should be encrypted at all times.
